The first year of the Program takes place in Portugal, at the Instituto Gulbenkian de Ciencia, located at Oeiras, next to Lisbon.

The last three years of the Program may take place in a laboratory anywhere in the world meeting the standards set by the Program Direction and scientific committee.

Oeiras is a cosy village, located on the seaside on the Atlantic cost.

Lisbon is a very beautiful city, located on top of seven hills, near the river Tejo and not far from the Atlantic. It is the capital of Portugal since its conquest from the Moors in 1147. It boasts of springtime temperatures during the winter and cool summers freshened by a breeze coming from the sea. It is famous for its various lovely historical monuments, ageless trams, many small and often steep alleys in particular in the Alfama quarter, one of the oldest in Lisbon, its azulejos, delicious pastéis de Belém, nostalgic music and poetry.
